DESEXING

Desexing your pet reduces unwanted litters. protects against some serious health problem and reduces some behavioural problems associated with the mating instinct

Spaying a female dog or cat eliminates their heat cycles and generally reduces many unwanted behaviours. Neutering a male dog or cat reduces the breeding instinct. It makes them less inclined to roam, more content to stay at home and is known to reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Sterilisation does involve a surgical procedure which uses anaesthetic and does pose a low risk of complications. Whilst challenging to consider the worst, the overall probability of these complications are very low.

Our veterinarians work with you to establish the most appropriate time to spay or neuter your pet based upon their breed, gender, age and physical condition.

VACCINATION

Vaccination contributes to the well-being of pets by protecting and reducing the risk of contracting viral diseases.

The most common viral diseases dogs can get are distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough and hepatitis. Cats can contract feline viral rhinotracheitis (herpes), calicivirus or panleukopenia.

Every pets lifestyle is different. Understanding how they live determine their susceptibility for various diseases. Our veterinarians individualise a vaccination plan based on their health and understanding their lifestyle.

Pets can catch viruses from another by sniffing their urine, faeces, vomit or through nose to nose contact.  Transmission can happen when the person who has recently been exposed touches your pet,  or when you touch something that is contaminated. Examples of this can include; food or water bowl, collar, leash, hands and clothing.

For cats additional vaccine options are based on lifestyle and can include; feline immunodeficiency, feline leukemia virus, chlamydia felis and bordetella bronchiseptica.

Many cat owners vaccinate their indoor cats to protect them in case they escape, have a stay in hospital, or if  another cat is going to be introduced to the household.

DENTISTRY

The hospital offers dental services including x-rays, extraction, dental scale and polish on certain week days.

Looking after your pets teeth reduces the likelihood of advanced tooth decay, infection, gum disease and conditions with their jaw.  Signs they are needing dental care includes: pain, drooling, bad breath, bleeding gums, avoiding food or being unable to groom themselves

All dental exams and treatments are done under general anaesthetic. This is to provide a stress free, calm and pain free experience. The well being of your pet during dentals is paramount and being under general anaesthetic enables the veterinarians to extensively examine inside their mouth.

Our dental work is completed during select days of the week and also covers proactive ways in which to maintain the health of your pets teeth.
